Lionel Messi

Today we talk of someone often termed as the “Messiah” of world football – Lionel Messi. Messi currently plays for FC Barcelona and the Argentina national team as a forward / attacking midfielder.

Although Messi had humble beginnings in Rosario Argentina, he was born in a football family where he was given the opportunity to pursue football at the early age of 5. By the age of 8 Messi was playing for the professional youth academy of Newell’s Old Boys youth team. He made quick progress and was amongst the most highly scouted youngsters in his peer group. Unfortunately for Messi, he was diagnosed by a serious growth hormone deficiency at the age of 11 which could meant the end of his dream before it even started. Sun and Mars are friends, but I feel their fiery combination in the 6th house (house of enemies, disease and illness) along with Saturn’s (responsible for bones) lordship of the ascendant placed in Scorpio which is ruled by Mars may have caused this problem.  Despite these issues, Jupiter’s aspect on the 6th house helped Messi when FC Barcelona came calling ready to pay his medical bills provided he joined their youth academy.

Messi moved to Barcelona in 2000 with his family to make a career with the Spanish giants. Messi quickly progressed through the ranks and made his first team debut in November 2003 at the age of 16. By this time, he was already being hailed by the media and football critics as a future star. They were to be proved right as Messi’s horoscope had all the necessary ingredients to make him a sports icon. If we look at some these strengths one cannot resist pointing out the following:

1st House - he has an extremely strong personality courtesy of Saturn which albeit in Scorpio is well placed in the 11th house (the house of gains).

6th House - Mercury is almost in an exalted position in its own house and sign. The 6th house belongs to one’s enemies who in this case happen to be the poor defenders Messi so easily dribbles and glides past making them look silly. Mercury being the lord of intellect and speed helps him read the game very early making him very difficult of predict.

5th house – Exalted Moon along with Venus in its own sign (Taurus) gives immense strength to this house. The 5th house amongst other things is responsible for recreation, creativity, sports and luck. An exalted moon makes him the cool finisher that he is, while a strong Venus adds the flair and creativity to his game.

3rd house – Finally the third house which is the house of mental strength, sports (like the 5th) and physical calibre is occupied by Rahu. Messi has been under the Mahadasa of Rahu from 1993-2011 and Rahu’s positive influence coupled with the above factors is the reason for this rags to riches phenomenon.

I will skip to the present as we all know the records he has broken and the accolades he has won. Most recent being the 53 goal record he set for the 2011 season and the FIFA Ballon d’Or he won in 2010. He seems to be the primary contender for this award in 2011 as well but I’m sure you don’t need an astrologer to tell you that after such a season.

From the period June 2011 – 2027 Messi will be under the favourable Mahadasa of Jupiter which will be beneficial for his professional life but also help him stabilize personally. 2015-16 seems like a good period for him to settle down with a special someone (female fans watch out!).

I could go on and on about the numerous astrological combinations in this chart but I rest my case by concluding that even astrologically Messi looks like the complete footballer. I am not sure if the football community will be seeing someone so gifted anytime soon.
