A person’s chart or horoscope is divided into 12 houses. Each of these houses stands for various aspects of a person’s life.
The various planets can be present in any of the 12 houses and depending on the sign & house they are placed, they show different results.
The sign in which your ‘Lagna’ or ascendant is placed becomes your 1st house. The sign next to that (anticlockwise), becomes your 2nd house. The one next to that is your 3rd house and so on till the 12th house.
· The 1st, 5th & 9th houses are the most auspicious & powerful houses as they influence your prosperity.
· The 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses are in the centre of the birth chart, hence they are also called Kendras or quadrants: They are auspicious and powerful houses.
· The 3rd and 11th houses are the houses of growth.
· The 6th, 8th and 12th houses are the bad houses.

FIRST HOUSE: I ME MYSELF
The First house or ascendant is a very important house. You can say it symbolizes you as it represents your birth, body/complexion, looks and soul, your personality traits and inclinations, longevity, health, vigour, vitality, character and nature.
Personality, honour, your ideals in life etc is also all looked after by this planet.
SECOND HOUSE: MY PROSPERITY
The Second house, stands for money related matters, profits, wealth, jewellery, precious gems, stones, shares/stocks, etc
It also looks at your communication skills primarily your speech, also your family, face, right eye, tongue, mouth and the food you eat and charity. This house can also become a death inflicting house.
THIRD HOUSE: MY COURAGE & SIBLINGS
The Third house represents your younger brothers and sisters, your relations with servants and subordinates, neighbours, communications and correspondence.
It also influences your talents and abilities, contracts, agreements, short distance travels etc. From the body point of view, it governs your hands, throat, shoulder blades, collar bones & the nervous system.
FOURTH HOUSE: MY MOTHER & MY LAND
The Fourth House represents mother, native place, luxury, property, home, relatives, office or factory, land, properties, orchards, ancestral properties, academic qualifications.
It also looks after emotions, domestic and house related happiness, conveyances, education mental peace and chest and lungs.
FIFTH HOUSE: MY CHILDREN
The Fifth house represents children, whether you will have children and what your relation with them will be like.
It is also the house of chance in terms of influencing gambling, betting, games of chance and cards.
It also governs education and intellect, creativity, spiritual practices, religious practices.
SIXTH HOUSE: MY ENEMIES
The Sixth house represents health, illness, injuries, loans, enemies, debts and opposition.
Jealousy, tenants, employees, maternal uncles are also influenced, and so is sports.
SEVENTH HOUSE: MY PARTNER
The Seventh house represents spouse, type of spouse, his /her mental & physical attributes, gains or losses after marriage, sex life, reproduction and genital organs, partners and enjoyments.
It also represents influence in foreign countries, success in foreign countries & travels.
EIGTH HOUSE: MY PAIN
The Eighth house represents misery, misfortune, strife, disappointment, disgrace, destruction, accidents, physical pains, inheritance, legacies, death and insurance.
It also represents theft, robbery, loss, pension suicide, fire.
NINTH HOUSE: MY WISDOM
The Ninth house represents meditation, intuition, luck, prosperity, faith, wisdom, guru, father, religious and spiritual progress and knowledge of the scriptures.
It also stands for dreams, visions, long journeys, travels, higher foreign education and knees.
TENTH HOUSE: MY WORK
The Tenth house represents your profession, your business, status, rank & authority, credit & recognition for actions, power and honours and achievements.
It stands for promotions, high posts, political power, appointments, etc
ELEVENTH HOUSE: MY GAINS
The Eleventh house represents gains and income, success in endeavours, prosperity, good news,money, elder brothers and sisters.
It also stands for friends and society, being influential & knowing influential people in the society, being important in community, long distance travels and ambitions.
TWELVTH HOUSE: MY LOSSES
The Twelfth house represents losses, expenses, waste, misery, misfortune, sorrow.
It also represents confinement, secret enemies, insults, disgrace, secret sorrows, deception, sin and life and activities in foreign countries.
